The industrial Revolution
The City Tours train will take you on a special tour along the highlights of Medemblik. You can drop off at the Dutch Steam Engine Museum. The museum is situated in the former steam-driven pumping station ‘Vier Noorder Koggen’. The pumping station, dated 1869, took care of the water management of the polders for more than a hundred years. Since 1985 it has become a museum. Nowhere else you’ll find such a huge number of original steam engines used in shipping and industry. Almost all the steam engines showed can be seen in action on specific steam-days, including the old pumping engine. This makes the museum a showcase of the Industrial Revolution unique to Europe and perhaps worldwide. Interested in a virtual preview? You can visit our virtual webpage and view the virtual tour and videos of the museum via www.stoommachinemuseum.nl.
